EDUCATION
Mr. Penn earned his J.D. with honors in 2003 from the University of Maryland School of Law. Mr. Penn graduated ranked 2nd in his law school class and was elected to the Order of the Coif.

Mr. Penn also served as an Associate Editor on the editorial board of the Maryland Law Review. Mr. Penn earned numerous awards and distinctions during his law school career, including the John L. Thomas Prize, Calvin W. Chesnut Prize, and 6 Am. Jur. Awards. Mr. Penn Earned his B.A. degree in 2000 from UMBC where he graduated in the top 10% of his class.

PROFESSIONAL
Mr. Penn began his professional career at Venable, LLP, one of the top law firms in the mid-Atlantic region. Mr. Penn was an Associate in the Products Liability practice group at Venable. After Venable, Mr. Penn worked as an associate at Ballard Spahr LLP and then as in-house Claims Counsel for the National Service Group at Old Republic National Title Insurance Co.

After leaving Old Republic, Mr. Penn was the Managing Partner at Yungmann, Madden & Penn LLP, where his practice focused on real estate title litigation, consumer finance litigation, and personal injury cases. Mr. Penn also has extensive experience with bankruptcy and consumer financial matters. He has handled over 250 bankruptcy cases for both individuals and businesses.

Most recently, Mr. Penn worked at the Baltimore injury and mass tort law firm of Miller & Zois. Mr. Penn has significant experience in the field of personal injury litigation, including medical malpractice, products liability, and premises liability. In 2023, Mr. Penn founded Penn Law Firm LLC where he focuses his practice on representing plaintiffs in tort cases and handling consumer bankruptcies.

SIGNIFIGANT MATTERS

  • As an Associate at Venable, Mr. Penn was part of a team representing a national hospitality company in litigation over the applicability of business interruption insurance coverage following hurricane Katrina. Mr. Penn also worked on defense teams in the Vioxx and Silica product liability litigation.
  • In the wake of the subprime mortgage crisis and real estate crash of 2008, Mr. Penn frequently represented mortgage lenders and lienholders in disputes regarding lien priorities. This included several significant cases impacting the interpretation of Maryland’s race-notice recording statute for real estate liens.
  • Mr. Penn achieved a number of successful results for victims of medical malpractice and manufacturer negligence, including a major financial settlement in a national mass tort case.
